Father’s Day Connections

Louis Strawhat in 1955

One of the most rewarding parts about going through my father’s old photos is connecting with the descendants of people he photographed. I’ve loved this photo he took, but until today didn’t know this gentleman’s name. While going through some of dad’s clippings I stumbled across a magazine article from 1956 with a photo that identified him as Louis Strawhat. He was a Cree from the Montana First Nation in Maskwacis, Alberta. He died in 1958.

I emailed to Maskwacis Cultural College with the photo and within a couple of hours was able to connect with his family and send them a high-res image.

Louis’s granddaughter, Eunice Louise, emailed me and said she’s getting it printed and framed to give to her dad, Henry Strawhat, on Father’s Day. I’ve asked her to email me a photo of her family with the picture.
